Red, Blue, no wait, Red...

What is your favourite colour? In an earlier post i declared the colour code issues with China and Canada, or at least my specs sheets. Well here is a direct example of what i meant, in all the glory of my old 1.6 mega pixel Kodak Camera:) Sadly, for the 2 years i designed these products i failed to properly document them for a portfolio, on account of there was just so much work and not nearly enough time to think of a personal goal, a solid reflection of over 300 designs. The London Drugs was found on a bike in Victoria BC, somewhere near the Ferry while waiting to go back home from a very cold weekend of snow and slushy BEER with Big E, one of the two owners of the previously Tofino's Raven Skate Shop.

Now Mr. Black there, well he never made the cut, and not for reason of everyone wanting to be Mr.Black and Mr. Pink getting all whiny again. No, this was due to licensing and another name was already bought and paid for. what did i do? Well i did what any self respecting creative would do, i blurred the copy, added the new name and kept the artwork i believed to be the best for the product. Yes, that is my face on over 300,000 bikes out there on the streets of the world- it was bound to happen. I still think the Top Bike companies are missing out on some great possibilities for design on bikes, but their getting it a bit more now...

The Skinny

Due to a wave of reminders this month of Skinny Puppy, i was reminded of one of my own designs for a good friends Christmas Gift. This was hand drawn at first, but then after researching the items i wanted to use as reference i realized the effect i wanted was more then pen and ink, so my PS skills came to light and the baby boy was born.

The reminder was first this event coming up:
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=84548940756&ref=mf

The second was an old friend from Winnipeg, sitting in a room with cEvin Key, I am guessing while in town doing his own show for Venetian Snares (http://www.venetiansnares.com)

For those of you who might be interested in Skinny Puppy and the history of one of the most influential EBM Electro Synth bands based right out of Vancouver, then check out their site at:

London Drugs

Client:
 A. Mordo & Son
Product: Bicycle Product Stamp
Name: London Drugs
Year: 2003

London Drugs licenses the name of Dunlop for it's bike and push scooter lines and this is one of the product stamps designed. The second was used and for some reason came back from China as red instead of blue. Blue and red was a constant problem with China, even though colour codes are numerically set... I will never get that one;)

Personal and clients statements:

"Out of all the students we have ever had here over the years, I think you stood out as the one with the most potential."
"I would describe his style as: hipster funk with a classical animation feel. How does that sound? I would also try to throw in something about your sticker creation and application godliness but I'm not sure how to phrase it correctly :)

"When I brought Dana's art work file to the screen printers to put his artwork on my girly tee-shirts, the company I used wanted to know immediately who my graphic designer was because they had never seen such perfect file preparation. He made their life so easy and this is the reason why I will use Peg Design for my next project."

"- a great ability to perceive a clients needs from basic information - impeccable layout and aesthetic placement to deliver material that impress'."

"Dana knows how to deliver and is excellent under pressure. He is very cre8ive and technologically savvy therefore making him a huge asset to any deliverable oriented team or company. A definite "A" Player."
