Good things come in 3's

It's kinda fun when you can finish off a great ride with a beer, wearing shirt, and lean up against a beam in one of your favourite Pubs, and say you designed for all three:) First time I can actually say this since designing:) NSMBA fortified trails, Raven Skate Shop T-shirt and Storm Brewery flavour all in one place at the Raven Pub in Deep Cove.

The Greener Steam Thinking..

The Green Steam.

In all the years i have been designing vehicle graphics or any other series of design where the details were to be produced with vinyl, I have never produced a vehicle wrap. I have worked for a few companies where the marketing appeal and obvious visual impact of a giant rolling billboard would be a fantastic way to do two things, pass on information, assuming you are parked at an event or driving along a highway somewhere when you are not able to stop and speak with the people who might be interested in your product being advertised.

I can speak for myself here in that from an early age I wanted to produce "green" design. Not environment friendly products per-say, but just items that do not visually mess up the background yet still catch ones attention in an otherwise dramatically over designed World. Then there is of course, the environmental factor. The designs we produce, and in the era of green designers left and right, oddly do not consider the waste of the design production itself, is, to me, terribly ignorant.

I See environmental companies over designed wrapping jobs on almost everything. Grass, trees, forrest and ferns masking the grey cold steel we used to protect our circuits and electrical devices to power our very own computers to design and said products. The vehicles drive around showcasing "clean" with the hybrid power of such and such a brand, yet the wrap itself (that usually is exchanged with another campaign in just a few months) leaves about 15 yards of un recyclable waxed paper backing that is simply thrown out in the bin, along with all the other acrylic and polyester products our industry uses for these Green programs messages.

I understand we use these products in tandem with many others, and hopefully those are used a bit more to reduce the costs, as there are  lot more becoming more and more available based on recycled post consumer products, but simple, cleaner design will always reduce the visual clutter and by production waste of the very same, cluttered designs. I can personally say, I love the easy use and versatility of a lot of synthetic products, but if given the choice for something more simple with less waste AND my target market could actually read my message, I could not see why I would say no!

Stormy Weather maybe, but a good Dark Pint of Fun!

Over ago redo the Storm Brewery Van and due to many reasons, we never got around to getting it done. Well a new van was purchased and a new, simpler and cleaner marketing plan on the go, vinyl instead of painting was decided on. Peg Design has yet to do a full vinyl wrap and to be honest, is not very fond of the full wraps due to the fact of more waste and less impact of actual data being seen as the vehicle drives by. Thankfully Storm was on the same boat and the most basic representation was chosen. With the help of Sandbox Signs cutting and applying the vinyl at their shop in Burnaby, BC, the Storm Brewery van now is on the go, bringing cheers and beers to all who can handle the stoutest of stouts, and more.

The size that counts.

Simple and to the point.

Everything but Web....

To state the subject title is fairly accurate considering some of the design projects i get. This custom job was one of the funniest i have ever done, and as it turns out, one of the hardest jobs Chris Dekerf of Dekerf™ custom Bikes, has ever come across. Now the design was not hard, but the project overall, in my transport getting it there, being that it ways a heavy chunk of classic metal and Chris' reducing the paint to the original metal, and then creating the swirl process the Client, one creative Artist in her own right, deeply desired. By the time this simple paint reduction and DEcal design project was done, it totaled a larger portion of 3 weeks!

Overall, as i always LOVE to hear, she was happy, he was happy, and we all hugged and sang in cheering satisfaction. Another Peg Design Collaboration complete with a smiling client.

Now, isn't that Special.....

Royal Le Page gets a new Look!

When I was approached by Natalie Husband of Royal LePage Westin, she was wanting something very different from the current layouts being used, primarily am image of the Realtor and a random house with contact information.

She was very proud of her new car so I suggested we focus on the body lines and base logo design. The end project was a well formed, solid impact vehicle graphics that has given her a bold stand out in the BC Interior, and a very identifiable advertising agent.

Bikes everywhere!

One of the most challenging positions I have follow up on, by either a staff member of as Peg DEsign, as been that of designing and painting for the bike industry. To this date, i still see a constant flow of my designs at any given day throughout the week. Now, i also designed a fair amount of snowboards for some of the same companies and have never seen a single board with my designs on them, well maybe a few...

The North Shore News had this on the front cover this past summer, and it blew me away that that particular bike was being raced, and that she did rather well with it. It was a price point of $259.00 back in 2002- 2004 and i think i was changed (frame wise) after then, so the bike basically was a low cost casual mountain bike, intended for weekend campgrounds, not a triathlon! I was very proud of this woman when i read this.

The above are some of the designs that made it out. The Cove bike was ridden by Trevor Porter, now currently with Kona for the 2003 World Cup in Scotland. The Graphics has incorporated sponsor logos and Rider names to flow along the frames curved design. The back end was a prototype at the time and so it was left with me to play around with while it was unfinished. The job was simple and i was never really paid for it, but Trevor did rebuild my front forks:) The Antelope was a fun set of graphics that was never used. The base bikes came in with an exist paint scheme that had two tone splits the client liked
and so i had to design 6 bikes all with blockers. Not many companies save Specialized, Giant and Trek use this technique, even with the newer printing methods available.

This is still an industry i would like to be more involved with and will be setting up my own dirt machine with new paint and matching graphics, which of course will be presented later on this blog.
